The highlight of our Crawfish season is always Cajun Café’s Annual Crawfish Festival. This year, our 4th Annual Crawfish Festival will be held on April 6, 7 & 8 and will feature Lee Benoit & the Bayou Stompers http://www.leebenoit.com/, The Zydeco Force http://www.lsue.edu/acadgate/music/zforce.htm and JoJo Reed and the Happy Hill Zydeco Band http://jojoreed.crazygator.com/default.html. To sing their praises would require more space than I have in this brief message. Let me just say that even we are impressed by our line-up. Our festival will also feature Zydeco dance lessons and contests, crawfish eating contests, door prizes, game concessions for the kids, pirogue races and of course, as always, authentic Cajun food and plenty of Cajun Cafe on the Bayou's live-boiled, Louisiana crawfish -- always sold at cost at our festivals.

Once a year during the first two weeks in May, the city of Lake Charles, Louisiana, returns to rollicking, swashbuckling days of the pirates and buccaneers who once sailed the area's lakes, rivers, and bayous. Legend has it that the French gentleman pirate Jean Lafitte buried his contraband treasure somewhere along the Southwest Louisiana's plentiful waterways.

The festival has everything your taste buds can handle - sample hot sauce, salsa, spices, marinades, chips, dips, peppers, jams/jellies, bloody mary mix, condiments, pickles products, and more... There is something for everyone. Taste samples at every fiery food booth, browse the array of pepper merchandise, cookware, aprons, cookbooks, jewelry, and arts & crafts. Or, relax and enjoy the wide variety of food and cold beverages while listening to the ongoing stage performances including Country, Rock, Blues, Zydeco and Oldies. There will also be appearances by hot-food personalities. Festival extras include a FREE area for children, salsa dance lessons, hourly door prizes, and the 5th annual "Amateur Salsa Competition". The Grand Prize for the overall "amateur" winner - "Best in Show", receives 10 cases of the winning product packed and labeled for sampling provided by Los Tios/TexMex Gourmet.

A Different Kind of Festival
Just about any weekend, somewhere in Louisiana there’s a festival celebrating one of the joys found in the state where Laissez Les Bon Temps Roule is a way of life. Many of these are a celebration of the food, especially the seafood – shrimp, crabs, fish, crawfish, and oysters – that make this area a gourmet’s paradise for residents and a legend around the world. This bounty we enjoy is only possible because of the rich, watery landscape of rivers, bayous, marshes and lakes we have in southeastern Louisiana, a populace that has made harvesting these resources a central part of their culture for over three hundred years, and a unique collection of boats that has evolved to operate in this maritime environment.
Every year, St. Tammany hosts a tribute not to seafood, but to the hand crafted wooden boats that originally made it possible for us to enjoy these marine delicacies. This year on October 16th and 17th, the 15th annual Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival will return to the banks of the Tchefuncte River. Hundreds of boats will line the banks of the Tchefuncte River and as many as 30,000 wooden boat, music, food and craft enthusiasts are expected to attend some or all of the activities on what is typically a lovely fall weekend.
In addition to the craftsmanship and mystique of building, owning and operating classic wooden boats, both locals and visitors from near and far are drawn to this one of a kind festival by its wide variety of attractions and activities designed for the whole family. Visitors are fascinated by the beautifully restored and maintained wooden boats themselves, and can also sample a wide assortment of Louisiana food favorites and shop at craft booths selling marine-related products, art, and handmade craft items. Each day, at a venue dubbed “Woodenstock,” a lineup of top popular local musical groups like the Blue Meanies, Four Unplugged, the Chee Wheez, and the Topcats will play. The always popular Children’s Village with a new lineup of entertainment and activities especially designed for the young ones should be more popular than ever this year, and the annual “Quick and Dirty Boat Race” will draw thousands of spectators to see if boats that were hastily built in a few hours on Saturday can stay afloat on Sunday.
The festival is the primary source of funding for the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, which has a mission of researching, preserving, and displaying to the public the incredibly rich maritime history of Lake Pontchartrain and the waterways flowing in and out of it. Since opening its first exhibits a little over a year and a half ago, the Museum has assembled a collection that has been extremely well received by visitors, who do not expect to find something of this size and quality in the quaint little town of Madisonville.

Michael Arnone's 14th annual Crawfish Fest will be held May 31st and June 1st, 2003 at Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, NJ. Follow these directions to spend a weekend with us. Camping and Hotels are nearby.12 bands will be performing live, so there will be plenty of entertainment. Check out the vendors, providing the best food and crafts that Louisiana has to offer. The first Strawberry Festival was originated and started in April of 1972. The festival was co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and Jaycees, with three members from each group sitting on the festival board and a chairman. They were: Ron Morgan, Chairman; Dolores Gainey, Sonny Wells and Carl Wells, representing the Chamber; Ronnie Drude, Richard Stilley and Robin Hudson, representing the Jaycees.
